Kawasaki updated its KX450 motocrosser and KX450X cross country machines for 2024, revising the cylinder head, frame, and brakes. Unfortunately, some of the final specs remain to be announced, including their curb weights, but here’s what we know about Kawasaki’s new 450s.

The 2024 models do away with the previous EFI coupler system in favor of a new handlebar-mounted power mode and Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC) switch. Riders have a choice of normal or mild engine maps, while KTRC can be toggled between Weak or Strong, or turned off completely. The KX450 and KX450X now offer smartphone connectivity with Kawasaki’s Rideology app. The app allows riders to access and adjust engine maps using their phones instead of the optional KX FI Calibration Kit.

The cylinder head has been updated, with an entirely new layout for the intake system. According to Kawasaki, the redesigned intake tract offers a straighter path for the fuel mixture to enter the cylinder. The intake and exhaust ports were also modified accordingly to improve efficiency.

The exhaust now exits from the center of the cylinder, lining up with the intake ports. This change improves airflow while also allowing Kawasaki to design slimmer bodywork. The aluminum perimeter frame has also been modified, accommodating the new exhaust position. Kawasaki also moved the silencer forward, improving mass centralization.

New radiator shrouds, side covers and rear fender are firmer and designed to eliminate hooking points with the rider’s boots and knees for easier movement. The side covers also adopt a new quick-release system for easier, toolless access to the air filter.

In a first for Kawasaki’s KX models, Brembo will supply the front braking components, including the master cylinder and brake caliper. Nissin will continue to produce the rear brakes, though the 2024 models use a 240 mm disc instead of the previous 250 mm rotor.

The suspension system will again consist of a 49 mm inverted coil-spring fork and a Uni-Trak rear suspension. Kawasaki says the KX450X’s suspension settings have been changed, but specific details will be revealed at a later date.

Kawasaki updated the 2024 KX450’s tires to the new Dunlop Geomax MX34, replacing the previous MX33s. The KX450X runs with Dunlop Geomax AT81 tires.

The 2024 Kawasaki KX450 will be available for $10,399, while the KX450X will carry a $10,599 price tag. Both models will come in Lime Green, arriving in showrooms in the fall.

KTM has updated its enduro range for 2024, including both two-stroke and four-stroke models and the U.S. street legal 350 EXC-F and 500 EXC-F. The entire lineup has been revamped, with KTM claiming 95% of the components are new, including the frame, suspension, and bodywork.

For North America, the 2024 enduro line will again include the two-stroke 150 XC-W, 250 XC-W, and 300 XC-W (for everywhere else in the world, the XC-W models will simply be branded as EXC models). The North American four-stroke enduro line will consist of the two street legal EXC-Fs and the competition-only 450 XCF-W model, plus two new 350 XW-F and 500 XW-F models. The XW-F bikes are 50-state off-highway compliant and come with a USFS-approved spark arrestor as standard. Internationally, the four-stroke line-up is more streamlined, with just four non-street legal EXC-F models in 250, 350, 450, and 500 displacements.

New for 2024 are the KTM 350 XW-F and 500 XW-F off-road-only models.

The biggest change for the 2024 lineup is an all-new hydro-formed, laser-cut and robot-welded frame. According to KTM, the new frame offers new longitudinal and torsional flex parameters, providing better feedback, energy absorption, and straight-line stability than the previous chassis. The subframe is also all new, made of a combination of reinforced aluminum and polyamide. All of the electronic components are fully-integrated into the subframe, providing better protection while also being easier to access.

The new bodywork was developed with feedback from the FMF KTM Factory team, with KTM claiming better knee contact, especially when standing up on the pegs, and an improved rider triangle. The front fender has also been redesigned with new mud-repelling fins. The transparent polythene fuel tank is also new, offering 2.24 gallons of fuel capacity for the four-stroke models and 2.37 gallons for the two-strokes.

The all-new 48mm WP XACT Closed Cartridge Spring fork offer a new mid-valve piston concept that KTM claims to provide optimal oil flow within the cartridge. The WP XPLOR PDS rear shock has also been retuned for the new chassis. Both front and rear suspension continue to offer full compression and damping adjustments via hand clickers. Rear preload is also adjustable.

The two-stroke engines introduce a new electronic throttle body injection (TBI) technology, which KTM claims to provide near carburetor-levels of smooth power delivery, without requiring re-jetting to adjust for different altitudes. The reed valve cases receive new plastic flaps to improve sealing for the intake tract, which KTM says will prevent the fuel from running too rich in extreme uphill or downhill sections. The engine electronics offer new exhaust control and two engine maps, though you’ll need an optional switch to toggle between them.

The four-stroke engines are tilted backward 2° compared to the previous design, while the front sprocket now sits 3 mm lower for an improved center of gravity. Along with the new chassis, KTM claims the 2024 range offers better traction on extreme inclines and improves power delivery out of corners in special enduro stages.

The 2024 450 XCF-W can now be equipped with an optional traction control and, in a first for enduros, a quickshifter that offers clutchless upshifts from 2nd to sixth gear.

The 2024 XC-W and XCF-W models will land in North American dealerships in June, while the EXC-F and XW-F models won’t arrive until August.

Meanwhile, we should expect similar updates to come to the enduro models from Husqvarna and GasGas, including the red brand’s first street legal versions of the 350 and 500 EXC-F.

VIN Filings Reveal New GasGas Enduro Models for 2024 https://www.dirtbikes.com/gasgas-2/ Wed, 24 May 2023 11:04:52 +0000 http://www.dirtbikes.com/?p=231833 Breaking news!

The post VIN Filings Reveal New GasGas Enduro Models for 2024 appeared first on Dirt Bikes.

GasGas, under the ownership of Pierer Mobility, is gearing up to introduce their new line of street legal enduro motorcycles for 2024. Drawing inspiration from KTM and Husqvarna, GasGas has been known to release motorcycles that share similarities with their sister brands. The latest revelation comes from recently filed vehicle identification number (VIN) data submitted to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which confirms the arrival of GasGas’ street legal enduro models. The VIN filings indicate that the 2024 GasGas motorcycles will bear the “GC” letter combination in the fourth and fifth digits of their VIN codes, signaling their association with the EXC-F street legal enduro range.

While specific engine displacements are not explicitly mentioned in the filings, it is reasonable to expect both 350cc and 500cc versions. GasGas currently offers the off-road-only EC 350F enduro model, but the street legal counterparts will sport new names. Potential monikers could be ES 350 and ES 500, where “ES” stands for “Enduro Street.” However, GasGas might also take a different naming approach.

Anticipated to be closely aligned with their Austrian and Swedish-branded counterparts, the GasGas models are likely to have minor differences while offering a more affordable price point. KTM’s 500 EXC-F is priced at $12,549, with the 350 EXC-F at $12,149. Similarly, Husqvarna’s FE 501s is listed at $12,649, and the FE 350s at $12,249. Given the minimal price variation among the brands, it is expected that GasGas’ street legal enduro models will be priced closer to the $12,000 mark, providing an attractive option for riders seeking a capable and budget-friendly off-road experience.

Hunter Lawrence fought valiantly, making his way up to a respectable sixth-place finish.

Colt Nichols Earns Rookie of the Year Award: Despite a setback due to leg injuries, Colt Nichols, a standout rider for Team Honda HRC, was awarded the AMA Supercross Rookie of the Year. Although he couldn’t participate in the Salt Lake City round, his contributions throughout the season were commendable.
